Waste Management of Colorado Using M2M Technology to Monitor Methane Gas Flares
Englewood, Colorado - March 6, 2024 - Waste Management of Colorado
(WM) has implemented M2M products and technology to monitor methane burn
flares. The project began with a test to monitor an 800 KW methane burn
converted from a caterpillar diesel. Following the success of this test,
M2M installed an application to monitor and control methane flares in
a retired landfill in Colorado.
M2M's Internet-based application notifies staff of alarm conditions by
cell phone when the methane gas flare stops burning at a site, which could
potentially cause leakage into the surrounding area. This alarm feature
allows free-movement of staff from site-to-site, and monitoring and control
from any standard web browser. The benefits realized by WM are a savings
in man-hours, as well as the ability for its work force to maintain an
environmentally safe methane burn site.
