iSCADA and APX to Manage Peak Electrical Loads
Throughout California
Englewood, Colorado - September 19, 2023 - M2M has teamed with
Automated Power Exchange, Inc. (APX) on the new Demand Response Program
in California, to provide the IT solution enabling the California Power
Authority's incentive -based "virtual capacity" program for
managing peak electrical load requirements throughout the state.
APX , a provider of electric power transaction processing services, has
awarded a major contract to M2M to provide iDATA, their meter data infrastructure
technology for the State of California's Demand Reserves Partnership Program
operated by APX.
"M2M's real-time meter data collection is an important feature of
this demand response system," said Jeff Crowe, APX California Demand
Reserves Partnership program director. "With the ability to schedule
and dispatch reduced power when and where needed, this program is among
the most advanced of its type in the U.S."
As power usage reductions occur, iDATA will collect real-time meter data
from program participants. APX systems will process the data to enable
real-time monitoring by state agencies and computation of performance
payments to participants. Immediate verification of the amount of reduction
aids transmission grid reliability by allowing reductions to be scheduled
and dispatched like generated power. Reduction reports generated from
iDATA will be accessible in a secure area of the program Web site, www.caldrp.com,
operated by APX.
"M2M is pleased that APX has chosen the iDATA for this exciting,
trend-setting load reduction program," said Alan Forbes, president
and CEO of M2M. Added Bill Luke, M2M director of power sales, "The
APX and M2M team are establishing a system that has tremendous value in
any electricity market."
Part of the State of California's "Flex Your Power" initiative,
the program gives businesses and government agencies a rapid and efficient
means of responding to times of high electric power demand by reducing
their usage. The California Consumer Power & Conservation Financing
Authority (CPA) administers the five-year program in cooperation with
the California Department of Water Resources. The program began operation
July 1, 2002.
